"The Power of Sound"

KB Pillai and Dr ThampanDr. K.B. Pillai (pictured standing), President, Kesava Holistic Medical Centre & Laser Research Institute, spoke at the GEP Public Talk Series on Sunday, June 12 about the many recent advances in alternative medicine and holistic treatments, including sound therapy, acupuncture anaesthesia, and laser treatment.

Welcome was made by GEP Secretary, Dr. M.R. Thampan, Director of the State Institute of Languages, Govt of Kerala (pictured seated).

One of the most intriguing new treatments is sound therapy.  Through instruments that replicate natural sounds, he said, we can enervate all the cells in our body.

Through the positive vibrations generated by chanting a mantra, he said, the person will stimulate their pituitary gland, nerves, and heart. Sound therapists have found out that beating a specially designed drum near a patient’s head will have a similar effect.

Dr. Pillai, who is well known around the world for his work and research in alternative therapies including Laser Therapy, Acupuncture, had also the honour of treating Sri. K.R. Narayanan, Former President of India and Mr. Jimmy Carter, Former President of USA.

H.H. Jagad Guru Swami Isa, Founder of the GEP, spoke following Dr. Pillai’s presentation. Swamiji explained that space is the subtlest of the elements in the universe, differentiated by the other elements (earth, air, water, etc.) due to the differences in sub-atomic, inter-particle arrangement.

Sound is the quality of space, Swamiji explained. “Scientifically, sound is vibration,” He said. “It is also matter,” but very fine, He said. “There is not even a single thing in the world that does not have sound.”

As the medium in the subtlest aspect, sound is therefore the most capable matter to create change. “Sound can be made to do anything,” He said. “The only thing is that we must make use of it in the right way.”

First of all, He urged, sound should be good to oneself. He encouraged the audience to examine their self-talk and their spoken words, to see whether they are positive or negative sounds.

“A word can start a war; another word can bring peace,” said Swamiji. “The entire universe is sound. If we can utilize sound in a positive way, we can change even the entire universe. Sound has such a mighty power.”
