History

The vision for the Global Energy Parliament had been initiated by H.H. Swami Isa, founder of the Isa Viswa Prajnana Trust (organizer of the GEP), as early as 2000, starting with small meetings at schools, colleges, and centres in the local area around Trivandrum. It grew to include a chapter in Chennai in 2007, and spread to have national centres in France, Germany, Australia and the United States by 2009. In 2010, the first meet was held in Trivandrum to bring together the various specialists in one place. The annual meet is planned to be held in Germany in 2011 and in different countries in subsequent years.

Participants

A total of 77 eminent scientists, scholars, students and leaders of public opinion made presentations at the event. Experts were drawn to represent current research in his or her discipline, and at the Students’ Global Energy Parliament, young scholars selected from high schools up to university level presented papers about reforms for positive education.

Five continents were represented (Africa, Asia, North America, Europe and Australia).

A former national President, wife of former Prime Minister, the Maharaj of Travancore, three Members of Indian Parliament, two State Ministers, two former Union Ministers, and two former State Ministers graced the occasion.

Distinctly different from a mere conference or seminar, the meet was a series of sessions spread over three days in the format of a parliament debate. Chairpersons introduced the topic of the session, and then invited lead persons to give a Keynote Address, followed by specialists who gave briefings in the form of technical presentations of their own area of research, relating to the energy plane.

A comprehensive array of disciplines were discussed, including: Chemistry, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Nuclear/Defense, Natural Energy Sources, Medicine (Traditional, Alternative and Allopathic), Anthropology & Behavioral Sciences, Philosophy, Arts & Music, Social Service, Agriculture, Industry, Architecture, Engineering, Banking, Economics, Sustainable Development, Forestry Sciences, Plant & Soil Sciences, Biology/Biophysics, Biotechnology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Marine Sciences, Justice, Law, Law & Order, Political Science, Human Rights, Education, Media, Language, Information and Communication Technology.
