Dr. Veena Jha was the Deputy Speaker of GEP 2014, on "The Science of Peace in Humans, Humans in Peace" in Geneva, Switzerland and Chairperson of the GEP Committee on Energy & Environment.
Dr. Veena Jha is Director of Maguru Consultants Limited, A UK-based consultancy company working with international institutions such as the European Union, UNCTAD, ICSTD and IDRC. Dr. Jha has served as Visiting Professorial Fellow in the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Warwick, and Research Fellow at the IDRC in Canada, while consulting with the ILO, FAO, European Union and ICTSD in Geneva.
Previously, Dr. Jha has served as Coordinator of the UNCTAD Office in India, and was responsible for a six-year program on "Strategies and Preparedness for Trade and Globalisation in India," as well as co-ordinating projects on trade, investment and environment issues with UNEP, ADB, World Bank and bilateral aid agencies such as DANIDA and DFID. Prior to that posting, Dr. Jha worked as an Economics Affairs Officer in the Trade and Environment Section of the International Trade Division, UNCTAD, and with the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. Dr. Jha is a member of the Advisory Group at UNEP on Economics Instruments, and serves on numerous technical groups advising the EU, UN and Indian Government.
Dr. Jha graduated with an Economics Degree from the University of Delhi and a Master's Degree from the Delhi School of Economics. She holds a PhD from the University of London.
