GEP 2017 Parliamentarian Award Winners

The Global Energy Parliament awarded several outstanding individuals who participated in GEP 2017 at Thiruvananthapuram, India. Lady Carla Davis of Australia distributed the trophies at the Valedictory Function on December 10.

The winners are as below:

Best Minister: Dr. Christophe Dumas, Head of Solar-Thermal Division, Centre for Alternative and Atomic Energy (CEA), Cadarache, France He had presented a Bill on the 1st day and explained the physics aspects of the "I Theory" and always assists others to understand the science of energy and its qualities. He is also working on several research projects related to "I Theory" and renewable energy.

Best Parliamentarian: Dr. P. Krishna Kumar, presently working as Associate Professor in Economics ad Kerala Law Academy, Law College, Trivandrum. Earlier was Associate Professor of Economics (Ret'd), M.G. College, Trivandrum. He had presented a Bill on on the 2nd day and drafted several Resolutions.

Best Submission: Dr. Sujakshi Haridas, Physician (Ret'd). She spoke wonderfully about the holistic vision of health propagated by the GEP. She also responded to several other submissions and was very engaged throughout the parliament, also in organizing.

Best Student Minister: Anusruti S.S., Govt Law College A very engaged member of parliament and a terrific speaker, who clearly outlines how I Theory can be applied in Law and can uplift society through it. Threw herself completely into the parliament with all of her heart.

Best Student Parliamentarian: Paras Dubey, 5 years Integrated M.Sc. Economics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Jammu & Kashmir. All-round very committed and dignified young parliamentarian hailing from Jammu & Kashmir who acted as the Minister of Economics

Best Student Submission: Anoop Krishnan H., BA Journalism Mass Communication and Video Production, Mar Ivanios College Thiruvananthapuram Another all-round wonderful parliamentarian who has ability to frame wonderful questions, interact with all, pushing the agenda of GEP forward and representing the youth of today who have a sense of wonder, curiosity, purity and self-sacrifice.

GEP 2017 Held in India

The 8th annual session of the Global Energy Parliament was held on December 9-10, 2017 at the first Assembly Hall of the Kerala government at the State Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. GEP 2017 was organized by the Isa Viswa Prajnana Trust, holding Consultative Status to the United Nations ECOSOC.

360 people from 16 nations participated in the session, which included a one-day Global Student’s Parliament. The Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of the Indian Parliament), Prof. PJ Kurien, inaugurated the parliament and chaired the first session. The theme of the parliament was “Science for Freedom and Happiness.”

18 Questions, 28 Submissions and 2 Bills were presented. The parliament concluded with unanimous passing of the Bills and Resolutions, which will be made available shortly. The Students' Parliament concluded with appointment of various Campus Ambassadors to take the message forward. All Members were delighted with the two day parliament and will be continuing their work as Ministers and in various Committees.

The organizers thank the Kerala Legislative Secretariat's Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training, the Nirbhaya Debating Society, Personal-Point GmbH-Germany, and GC Avocats-France for their support and assistance for holding GEP 2017.

In Memoriam - Sir James Mancham

With great sadness we learned about the passing of our valued Founding Member, Sir James R. Mancham (Former President of the Republic of Seychelles). Sir James passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8.

Sir James had just been awarded the GEP Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary commitment to global peace, at the GEP 2016 in December. Sir James was a treasured and distinguished Founding Member of the GEP, who had attended the first session of GEP in 2010 in Thiruvananthapuram, India, and had been a great support throughout the years.

Sir James will be truly missed by the GEP and by the thousands around the world who knew him as a leader and friend who never compromised his integrity, innate wisdom, commitment to peace, and who shared his joie de vivre with one and all. We extend our greatest sympathy and prayers to his family and all who knew and loved him.

Lady Carla Davis, GEP Minister for Environment, a great friend of Sir James, shares her condolences:

"It was with shock and much sadness that I learned, last night, of the passing of my dear friend and fellow GEP Minister, Sir James Mancham, KBE. His extraordinary leadership, devoted hard work, and tireless efforts to revolutionise the world’s ideology, energy, and resources towards peace, culture and prosperity have been an inspiration to everyone who yearns for a more peaceful, equitable, and socially just world. If only more leaders shared his vision, creativity and heart, the world would be a much better and more beautiful place!

"Sir James was a a unique Seychellois, leader, statesman, and global citizen. His knowledge, skills, diplomacy, and brilliant business acumen lifted standards, built bridges of harmony, improved everything he was involved with, and brought world renown to his small island nation. His many prestigious awards, VIOAS magazine, and fascinating books that he authored, provide a small glimpse into the life of this remarkable man.

"Sir James will be sorely missed by those who knew him. May his unique spirit and legacy to make our world a better and more peaceful place, along with his philosophy of 'Right is Might' live on, for many generations to come."

The Founder's Proposals for Habitat Harmony

At GEP 2016, Founder Swami Isa presented several proposals to achieve habitat harmony, including legislation for environment and building construction.

Swami Isa challenged the modern definition of ‘habitat’ as being merely about housing and construction. For a truly harmonious habitat, he said, society needs to consider all aspects that influence the human life, from education, to healthcare, to economy, to technology, to agriculture, to governance. “Our proposals in these areas have been covered in the previous sessions of the Global Energy Parliament and they must be constantly worked on if we are going to achieve real sustainable habitat.”

After achieving more positive energy and a sustainability in these areas, we can look at how urban spaces, roads, and construction of homes create harmony.

Another challenge to the status quo presented by Swami Isa included the common materials used in eco-friendly building or green housing. “It is very good for the human being to have organic matter, or at least natural materials, for their living space, as the energy field of natural materials is most similar to the human energy field. But how long can you continue to use earth, stone, granite, sand—not to mention steel and cement?” It is only trees which have the capacity to be renewed, Swami Isa said, unless there is other biomass made available. If we plant enough hardwood trees today, then in 20 or 30 years our building needs will be met. By contrast, he says, “How long would it take for you to create new red earth, new granite?”

Therefore Swami Isa proposes that for each new building constructed, 80% should be made of silicon-coated wood, and for each 5 cents of land proposed to be built upon, 2 hardwood trees would need to be planted in order to gain permission for starting construction.

In addition, all city and national roads and highways in developing countries should adopt a standard approach to using hardwood trees for coolness and beautification, with shrubs and flowering plants in between. Even in developed countries, there is a lack of appreciation for hardwood trees and their usefulness in construction with longevity.

There should also be a standard model used by engineers, along roads and highways, to make underground passages for sewage, rainwater harvesting, drinking water, power and communications, made invisible to the eye but easy to maintain.

City and national planners need to adopt a much longer view if they are going to build for harmony and for the human beings that are populating. A minimum of 1000 years foresight in planning is necessary, and this is easy to do when we have a good understanding of the energy flow that is required.

Planning a habitat should “be enriched with the logical and scientific concepts to provide balanced and appropriate living conditions,” writes Swami Isa in his proposal. “The body of the human being seems to be endowed with an inbuilt mechanism to safeguard his or her wellbeing. In the same manner, the Earth has in its structure, the ingrained factors to maintain its rhythm and harmony. Man’s inventions, when applied in everyday life, should not disrupt this rhythm. Every object has a particular shape and the energy flow of the object depends on its shape.”

In a house, for example, the shape of the building influences the human being’s energy flow, and the best type of building is one shaped like a pyramid.

In a city, the centre should be for the secretariat/government, with its outer part devoted for places of worship, outside that for schools and residence, and the perimeter for factories and waste treatment, etc. This keeps the energy flow that is appropriate for each part of the city from interfering with others.

Hon. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Opens GEP 2016

The 7th Global Energy Parliament was inaugurated by the Hon. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe. About 500 people attended the event on December 11 at the Banquet Hall of his residence, Temple Trees, Colombo.

The Hon. Prime Minister expressed a warm appreciation of the GEP’s vision of world harmony through energy balance, and also emphasized that “If we want to achieve development, we need to maintain environmental, habitat, religious and ethnic harmony.”

H.E. Sir James Mancham, the Founding President of Seychelles, GEP Founder His Holiness Swami Isa, Ven. Banagala Upatissa Nayaka Thero, the President of the Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, Ven. Ittepane Dhammalankara Maha Nayaka Thero, a chief Sri Lankan Buddhist leader, Rev. Ebenezer Joseph, the General Secretary of the National Christian Council of Sri Lanka, GEP Chairman Dr. A. Sukumaran Nair, the Former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University-Kottayam also participated in the Inaugural Function.

In his Founder’s Address, His Holiness Swami Isa said, “Without knowing what it means to be human, without knowing the science of energy flows in habitat, we cannot achieve any lasting harmony—in home, society, nation or world. This is our work today.”

Sir James Mancham also received from the Prime Minister the GEP Lifetime Achievement Award at the function. (See full story here) Two books by His Holiness Swami Isa were also released at the function: “Education for Total Consciousness,” published by IVPT, and “Saphalamee Atmeeye Yatra (Fulfillment of the Divine Journey),” published by the Kerala Bhasha Institute.

This 7th session of Global Energy Parliament was conducted on the theme, “Habitat Harmony,” following the UN Habitat III conference in Quito.

The Inauguration preceded the session of parliament in which members and ministers from all sectors of society, discussed and forwarded Resolutions for a holistic, scientific and rational solutions for creating global harmony in habitat.

Sir James Mancham sat as the Prime Minister, and His Holiness Swami Isa also forwarded several unique proposals for habitat harmony, including suggested legislation in environment and building construction.

Architect Kirtee Shah forwarded the Habitat Harmony Bill, while submissions were made by many other national and international figures including Architect G. Shankar, Architect Alain Moatti, Dr. Reza Chowdhury, Dr. Christophe Dumas, Upulangi Malagamuwa, Prof. Ariyaratne, Mervyn Macallugh, Kamal Amaraweera, Dr. Pradeep Joethi, Dr. Kularatne, Dr Joy Joseph, Sarah Arumugam, Julie Cox, Dr. Punchihewa Meegahawatta, Dr. M.R. Thampan, Shiral Lakthilaka, Ranjith Pathmasiri, Hemeakumara Nanayakkara, Dr. Ravindra Galhena, Shoaib Khan, and Modi Umang.

The parliament concluded with a dazzling Cultural Performance by the Sri Lankan Navy, featuring 171 artists.

The Global Energy Parliament was conceived by His Holiness Swami Isa as an international assembly of volunteers who have a right and a responsibility to the world. GEP is organised by the Isa Viswa Prajnana Trust (holding Consultative Status to the United Nations ECOSOC) and this event was co-organized the Interfaith Coalition for Peace of Sri Lanka. Additional support was received from the UNESCO’s World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), EHRT Maschinenbau and Personal-Point.

Release of Swami Isa's books

Swami Isa released 2 books at GEP 2016 in Sri Lanka: the English language edition of "Education for Total Consciousness," published by the Isa Viswa Prajnana Trust, and "Saphalamee Atmyee Yatra (Fulfillment of the Divine Journey),” published by the Kerala Bhasha Institute.

Dr. M.R. Thampan, GEP Secretary, received the first copy of the books from Ven. Ittepane Dhammalankara Maha Nayaka Thero at the Inaugural Function.

H.E. Sir James R. Mancham receives GEP 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award

Out of deep gratitude and respect for the sacrifice of those who have spent their lives in service to humanity and to the planet Earth, for those who have tirelessly lived each moment to promote a world in sustained balance, harmony, peace and happiness, to those who live the ideal, the Global Energy Parliament has decided to introduce the GEP Lifetime Achievement Award. The first GEP Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to H.E. Sir James R. Mancham, the Founding President of Seychelles at the 7th international session of the Global Energy Parliament in Sri Lanka, on December 11, 2016. Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, presented the award to Mr. Mancham at the Temple Trees Banquet Hall, the residence of the Hon. Prime Minister. Sir James R. Mancham was born in Seychelles in 1939 and educated as a lawyer in London. He was the Prime Minister for 10 years, and after Seychelles received British independence he became the first President. Mr. Mancham has devoted his life to the causes of true and lasting global peace, reconciliation, inter-religious and inter-cultural harmony, non-proliferation, and statesmanship. He has always been a vocal critic of nuclear arms and warfare, but takes a gentle and diplomatic approach. Born in a small island nation, Mr. Mancham well understands the fragility and the interconnectedness of all life and nations on this planet. Since leaving office, he continues his struggle for global peace and tirelessly promotes the message to leaders and organizations worldwide. He has recently founded the Centre for Peace Studies and Reconciliation in Seychelles, and has been given many distinguished awards and honors, most notably the URI-Africa Peace Award (2016), the Gusi Peace Prize (2011), the International Jurists Award for Peace (2010). He is a member of many organizations, including the Club de Madrid, the World Future Council, and the European Centre for Peace and Development, and author of many books, articles and his own magazine. In his address to the General Assembly of the United Nations as the President of Seychelles in 1976, Mr. Mancham said, “I think the time has come when we must ask ourselves what will make the world a sane world. The answer is only sane people. What will make the world peaceful? The answer is only peaceful people. For too long the strange notion has persisted in human beings that a state of sanity and peace can somehow be produced by arms struggle and violence. That the end justifies the means is a lie which has been swallowed by almost everyone. It would be much more accurate to say that the end reveals the means. “We do not have to look very far or very closely to see that there are simple and natural laws which work as surely in human affairs as they do in the rest of creation.” These profound words should echo loudly for the members of the Global Energy Parliament, who holds the hope that every man, woman and child will deeply contemplate the law of action and reaction, the amazing reality that everything is energy, and through energy we are all connected. The creation and maintenance of peace is in the hands of humankind only, to harness this knowledge of energy and to learn how to keep our world in balance. We celebrate the life of Sir James R. Mancham, a global ambassador of peace and statesmanship, and take great pleasure to award him with the first GEP Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. G. Madhavan Nair opens meeting commemorating Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

The Global Energy Parliament held a Commemoration Meeting for Former President APJ Abdul Kalam on August 23 at the Isa Viswa Vidyalayam, Anayara, Thiruvananthapuram. Shri. V.S. Sivakumar, Hon. Minister for Health, Govt of Kerala, inaugurated the meeting, and spoke about the great contribution that Dr. Kalam made to the world. Shri. G. Madhavan Nair, former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), was the Chief Guest, and told several stories about his time with Dr. Kalam at ISRO. His Holiness Swami Isa, Founder of the Global Energy Parliament, also spoke in tribute to the great scientist and his standards of intellectual greatness and humility. Swamiji compared his broadness of mind and heart to a physicist who overcomes the material fetishism of objectivity through classical Physics, to discover the world of possibilities contained in subjectivity through Quantum Physics. GEP Chairman Dr. A. Sukumaran Nair, Former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, presided over the meeting, and Dr. M. R. Thampan, GEP Secretary, gave the Welcome Speech. Several other members of the Global Energy Parliament from the scientific and educational community spoke in tribute to Dr. Kalam. Onam Kits were distributed to disadvantaged members of the community by Adv. Punchakkary R. Nair, on behalf of the Isa Viswa Prajnana Trust.

GEP 2016 to be held at Prime Minister's Residence, Sri Lanka

We are excited to announce the 7th GEP session is going to take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 11th of December, at the beautiful residence of the Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Temple Trees.

GEP 2016 is jointly organized by the Isa Viswa Prajnana Trust, the Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, the National Christian Council of Sri Lanka, and the Interfaith Coalition for Peace.

This year's topic for GEP 2016, Habitat Harmony, will look at one of the most pressing questions facing humanity: how to create a harmonious habitat for the billions of humans, animals and plant species on the planet. Nature has its own harmony, or balance, in which many different species co-exist in a mutually beneficial ecosystem. When the balance is lost in any way, the survival of the entire system is at stake.

Life for Total Consciousness

Life for Total Consciousness is a yoga-meditation program designed by His Holiness Swami Isa, as a method for tuning the individual energy.

In light of the growing appeal for yoga and meditation, and the international support for the International Day of Yoga, the Global Energy Parliament has named 2016 the 'Year of Life for Total Consciousness' (LTC). LTC Centres are being established in member countries.

An LTC Teacher Training Course is offered in India. Applications are being accepted now for this 200-hr certificate Yoga Teacher Training Course conducted for one month at Isalayam Ashram.

GEP at COP21 UN Climate Change Summit

Dr. Christophe Dumas, Director of the GEP Research Centre, attended the COP21 conference in Paris on climate change. He found the negotiations tense, as many countries promoted their own self-interest and were lacking a global outlook.

"A large focus in the COP21 discussions is on solar energy, but solar has its own disadvantages which sometimes policy makers are not aware of," he said. "Alternatives to solar energy and wind energy--like the GEP's Sound Energy-- are really necessary in order for a truly sustainable future."

The GEP Research Centre is working on a global solution of low-cost renewable energy that can be used for a large scale.

"GEP also proposes global education solutions through the I theory and Education for Total Consciousness," said Dr. Dumas. "This is really essential now, because the present scientific knowledge needs to change. More people should be aware of the I theory's definition of Energy and to approach the world through this more holistic and synergistic view."

All-India Students Energy Parliament Held

The Isa Viswa Prajnana Trust and the State Institute of Languages, Govt of Kerala, in association with the Govt of India (CRWC) conducted the 2016 GEP All-India Students Energy Parliament on February 25, 2016 at the State Secretariat Assembly Hall, Thiruvananthapuram.

Students and faculty from universities across India attended as Ministers and parliamentarians. The participants were delighted to be given the opportunity to speak in the historic monument, to interact in the parliamentary style and to work collaboratively towards developing unique Resolutions to improve education.

Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan, Hon. Leader of the Opposition for Kerala State, delivered the Valedictory Address, Shri. Palode Ravi, Deputy Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly gave the Inaugural Address, and Shri. Kummanam Rajasekharan, Hon. State President, BJP Kerala, presented the Awards.

2016 to be year of yoga

In June 2015 at Madrid, the Global Energy Parliament held a Cabinet Meeting and decided on a number of initiatives for the GEP moving ahead. One such decision was that GEP should promote the "Life for Total Consciousness" yoga and meditation program as one tool balancing energy that anybody can learn.

We are pleased to announce that we are holding a one-month LTC Yoga Teacher Training Course in July 2016 at the Isalayam Ashram in Kerala. Anyone who wishes to become a LTC trainer or wishes to learn yoga in a traditional Gurukula setting is welcome to attend.
